Mary comes from Sebastopol, CA and has lived within the Bay Area for most her life. Though she's spent time living in both France and Turkey, she still considers California's Bay Area to be one of the most beautiful and diverse areas in the world and is proud to call it home. Mary graduated from SFSU with a B.A. in Anthropology but has been practicing art for as long as she can remember. Though she is primarily a self taught artist, she's taken a few courses in ceramics, oil painting, figure drawing, and character design from institutions like California College of the Arts, Santa Rosa Junior College, and The Animation Collaborative.
In her past, Mary has worked in a myriad of industries. She has worked in dermatology as a cryostat technician, conducting biopsy of skin cancer tumors. She has worked in accessory/fashion as both an executive assistant and production manager for well known businesses. Additionally, she has worked within the world of butchery and the meat industry of the Bay Area, filling various roles. Her time spent working in the food industry became an experience which offered opportunity to build a career in bookkeeping, make lifelong friends, and introduced her to her partner (a graduate in food anthropology who researched the Slow Food movement and butchery practices in Turkey on a Fulbright Scholarship).
You are likely to find Mary either running, cooking, eating, drinking, reading, or seeking out comedy and things that make her smile. These are are things she is certain to make happen nearly every day in her life. Above all her interests, it is art that truly pulls on her heart strings, motivating her to become an artist and pave a path towards a world and career that smells like turpentine and appears as a blur of vibrant colors and textures.
